The 1st Sino-German Symposium on Basic Theory and its Application for High Efficiency and High Reliability Rotodynamic Pumps (HEHRpumps2015/GZ1241) has been successfully held in Jiangsu University from October 21st to October 26th, 2015. The symposium is sponsored by the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, and is co-organized by Dr. Ji Pei from National Research Center of Pumps, Jiangsu University, China and Prof. Dr. –Ing Martin Böhle from TU Kaiserslautern, Germany.

A total of 27 academic reports from Chinese, German and third-party experts have been presented. The German side participants are from Technical University Kaiserslautern, Technical University of Munich, Technical University of Darmstadt, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Duisburg-Essen University. Chinese participants are from Jiangsu University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China Agricultural University, Hohai University, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Lanzhou University of Technology, Xi'an University of Technology, China University of Mining and Technology and University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. In addition, 3 famous professors from third-party countries (University of Padua, Italy, Paris Tech, France and University of Pisa, Italy) also participated in the presentation and discussion. Meanwhile, doctor and master students from many famous universities also attended the symposium.

The symposium focused on basic theory for high efficiency and high reliability pumps which comprehensively displayed the latest progress in the research field of pumps in both German and Chinese sides in the aspects of theoretical analysis, experimental measurements and numerical methods. The symposium is recognized as a good chance to exchange knowledge and ideas for pump research between Chinese and German participants, and the invited worldwide acknowledged experts from France and Italy supplied more authoritative guidance to all scholars which can improved the exchange and cooperation level. In the symposium, several project intentions and possible cooperative directions have been generated, and the road maps have be fixed which can show the steps for future research cooperation. In Germany, the design and manufacture technology for pumps is of world’s leading, and in China, the pump has broad market prospects and strong demand of technology development. The symposium therefore is a kind of “kick off” meeting for a very successful research cooperation between Germany and China.
