Associate Professor Qiu Ning of the Fluid Center Achieves Significant Advances in Cavitation Research
Date:2024-09-25 View:

Recently, Associate Professor Qiu Ning of the Fluid Center has made a series of important research advancements in the field of cavitation, with relevant findings published in top journals such as International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, Physics of Fluids, and Ocean Engineering.

With the rapid development of marine resource exploitation, high-speed propulsion technologies, and advanced materials in engineering fields such as marine engineering and ship propulsion systems in China, the risks associated with cavitation damage and safety control have become key areas of focus. The occurrence of penetrating damage in turbine blades is one of the significant threats to the stable operation of equipment.

The research team has conducted a multidimensional study on cavitation, progressing from initial analyses of solid wall material damage to investigations of cavitation flow shock wave mechanisms, micro-jet mechanisms, and the coupling vibrations associated with bubble collapse. Their research methodologies have enabled the measurement of transient cavitation patterns, cavitation shock intensity, cavitation noise, and material erosion.

This cavitation research is a collaborative effort involving Dr. Qiu Ning, the Special Fluid Machinery and Propulsion Technology Team at Zhejiang University's College of Energy Engineering, the Fluid Engineering Research Institute at Zhejiang University’s College of Aerospace Engineering, and KSB Group in Germany. The project has received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (51806082), the Special Fund for Postdoctoral Science Foundation of China (2021T140282), and KSB Foundation (No. 1294, No. 1326).
