Recently, “Complex vortex identification and evolution mechanism in turbulence flow of side channel pumps” hosted by Desmond Appiah, who is a foreign post-doctoral fellow of our fluid center of UJS, was approved for the "Key Support Plan for Foreign Experts" program of Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. It is the first time that the fluid center was approved for this sort of program.

This program mainly studies the identification and evolution mechanism of complex vortices in the side channel of pumps, anticipating to improve the mechanism of unsteady flow in ultra-low specific speed pump. Under the guidance of Prof. Yuan Shouqi and Associate Prof. Zhang Fan, Desmond Appiah, relying on the Fluid Center in the early stage, has been approved for the Youth Research Program for Foreign Experts by National Natural Science Foundation of China. The program this time is a deep extension of previous research.

In recent years, the Fluid Center further promoted the construction of international connotation, overcame the difficulties caused by the pandemic, maintained close contact and cooperation with foreign experts, and concentrated on talents training, scientific research, exchange and discussion. 12 graduate students were approved to go abroad for joint training or degree study under the support of the China Scholarship Council this year, contributing greatly to the connotation construction of international cooperation platform of national level, such as National Center for International Research on Energy Saving Technology of Fluid Engineering Equipment and Advanced Technology for High-end Fluid Machinery Overseas Expertise Introduction Center for Discipline Innovation (“111 Center”).
